Many XML technologies and tools, such as XSL for transforming or formatting XML data, are useful and powerful. In some cases, it even makes sense to use XML technologies to process non-XML data. This article introduces the idea of handling non-XML data with XML technologies based on the author’s experience developing a data transformation tool. The key point here is to XMLize the non-XML file format first, and then further process the generated XML files with a corresponding XML technology. [www.ibm.com/developerworks]
